This, however, seems both harsh and inaccurate. The delay could well have been a result of personal or family considerations, such as Terah’s old age. It is not improbable that Abraham was awaiting the appropriate time to break with his family, and when that time came, God reiterated the call. Let it also be emphasized that God called, or elected, Abraham not because of any merit on his part.
